The Goldeyes (45-29) fell 8-0 to the Sioux City Explorers (33-42) in front of 586 fans at Lewis and Clark Park on Monday night. The starting pitchers for both teams were strong out of the gate, keeping the game scoreless through three and one-half innings. The Explorers Peter Barrows broke the two teams deadlock with a two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. "Weve been hurting a lot on two out hits on this road trip," added Vermilyea. The home team then doubled their score in the sixth as they brought two more around to score on two hits. They added three more runs in the seventh, and then one more in the eighth. The Xs were paced by shortstop Tommy Mendonca who had two hits, and drove in four runs. "We just couldnt keep them off the scoreboard," said Vermilyea. The Goldeyes batters were unable to solve the Sioux City pitchers, as they only mustered four hits and were struck out eight times. Reggie Abercrombie was one of the Goldeyes batters who got a hit, and with the single, Abercrombie extended his season high hitting streak to 13 games. The Goldeyes and Explorers will play game three of their four-game series on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Winnipeg will send Ethan Hollingsworth (6-0) to the mound to face Sioux Citys John Straka (6-4). "We need to throw some zeros, it starts with the guys on the mound. If we can put up some zeros on the board and get some timely hitting then we stand a chance," said Vermilyea of tomorrows game.
